Seed banks are essential for the conservation of plant germplasm. Seeds are the genetic reservoir for genes necessary to produce the next generation of plants. As such, the factors that influence their successful storage and reproduction are of paramount interest to seed biologists. At The Ohio State University, the Ornamental Plant Germplasm Center (OPGC) has been established to conserve important flower seed genes. Similarly, UC Davis is noted for its Tomato Genetics Resources Center (TGRC). Other seed banks around the world include the following:
