I attended the Seed Biology Program at Ohio State University in Seed Biology from January 1, 2007 to July 1, 2007. During that period, I was active in conducting independent research with the patented Seed Vigor Imaging System and determined its ability to accurately quantify seed vigor for sorghum, an important Brazilian crop. I designed the study, conducted the research, and drafted a manuscript that has been approved for publication following revisions in Seed Science and Technology, a leading international journal in our field. In addition, I cooperated with other research studies by Seed Biology students and learned news techniques and protocols in Seed Science. I also attended the International Seed Physiology class that was taught during Spring Quarter using internet videoconferencing with other students from OSU, Brazil and Chile and took a course in spoken English. This period was very important for my personal and professional development by increasing my knowledge in agriculture that will make a difference in my career and allowed me to associate with a new culture, lifestyle, language and to know people from all parts of the world. Finally, I recommend that others participate in this program and identify an important research project that allows the opportunity for exchange of knowledge among different peoples around the world. |
