Student internships

Ivana

I spent 4 weeks at OSU in Spring, 2005. During that time, I had enrolled in the first year of graduate studies (Seed Science and Technology Group) at the University of Belgrade and what I needed practical laboratory training in seed testing. That’s why I approached Professor McDonald at first and he agreed that I could come to OSU. During my stay at OSU, I assisted Rafael Ribas in research studies associated with standardization of the computerized Seed Vigor Imaging System. Professor McDonald also established visits to Ohio Seed Improvement Association and Ohio Foundation Seeds where I witnessed and participated in commercial seed germination, purity, vigor and genetic purity testing.
Almost 3 years have past since I’ve been to OSU and I can just say that I always remember with great pleasure my stay there. What I learned remains very useful and allows me to feel more confident when applying myself to present tasks. I will always be grateful for the academic training Professor McDonald and his associates gave me.
I would also like to mention that I truly support the formation of the Consortium for International Seed Technology Training. I think that the establishment of CISTT is as a good way to educate students for a global seed industry and hope that my country will also become part of this project and will make a contribution to the Consortium and worldwide education.
