My current position at the Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade University, Serbia, is research and teaching assistant at the Crop Production Department. Considering the topics of my MSc and PhD theses which dealt with quality seed production, my present research interests are in the field of forage production and quality, grass seed production and quality, and new standards in forage seed production. Trials are mostly conducted under field conditions and eventually if the need arises additional assessments are done under laboratory conditions. The short course in seed vigor which I attended in 2004 at OSU has been an unforgettable experience. Thanks to the facilities of your Laboratory, the patience and understanding of your staff headed by McDonald, our stay has been useful, pleasant and unforgettable. The program encompassed visits to laboratories which work in close cooperation with OSU, introduction lectures on the importance of vigor tests in practice (the organized visit to Pioneer has been immensely interesting) but also getting to know postgraduates from other countries proved useful as well. The knowledge and experience acquired from attending the Course are of major importance for research activities in Serbia and hopefully will benefit the country I come from. The results dealing with seed quality as part of my PhD thesis were backed by the literature and principles of seed vigor I came across during my stay. In future, further investigations on seed vigor of forage crops will be conducted in cooperation with colleagues dealing with seed production as well as scientiests from Serbia who attended the Course. My stay at OSU has opened the door to my next visit to the USA (Iowa State University) in 2005. |
