Faculty interactions

Consortium for International Seed Technology Training faculty routinely interact through co-advising of students as well as conducting complementary research activities.  For example, Dr. Julio Marcos, ESALQ, completed a sabbatical at OSU in 2004 while conducting research with the OSU Seed Vigor imaging System on melon seeds.  In August, 2005, Drs. Miller McDonald and Samuel Contreras visited ESALQ to establish linkages between PUC and ESALQ for future consortium activities.  In September, 2005, Drs. Miller McDoanld and Julio Marcos visited PUC University in Santiago and seed companies in Arica, Chile in the northern part of the country.  In November, 2006, a meeting of all consortium members was convened in Columbus, OH at OSU to discuss, plan and implement a common CISTT curriculum as well as develop a strategic plan for the consortium.  In February, 2008, Dr. Marcos visited OSU to discuss the establishment of the International Seed Physiology course on the web as well as obtain the Seed Vigor Imaging System software for establishment of the imaging system at ESALQ in Brazil.  This vigor imaging system will be placed in the Imaging Laboratory at ESALQ and is an important component of the Imaging thematic project funded to Dr. Marcos by FAPESPE.  Meetings of various CISTT members commonly occur using the polycom technology as the method of communication with faculty and students.
