Courses and Workshops

The Consortium for International Seed Technology training is committed to developing an international seed technology curriculum.  In this way, classes can be taught around the world that quickly brings the seed technology expertise in other countries to the same standard.  This approach allows seed testing, production, and physiology expertise to be equivalent thus facilitating the worldwide marketing of seed in this important agricultural global industry.  While the curriculum continues to be under development, an example of the complete curriculum is provided at the following link.
- International Seed Science and Technology Curriculum

Interactive courses have been prepared and taught using internet videoconferencing techniques and the web with Brazil and Chile.  Two examples of such courses are International Seed Production and International Seed Physiology.  At these sites, you will find the lectures for each courses presented in text, PowerPoint, and video (podcast).  This assists students in previewing and reviewing each lecture before and after the interactive presentations.  Should language be a difficulty, students can preview the presentations prior to the lecture and make appropriate interpretations.  The advantage of this approach is that the web and internet are used for communication at essentially no cost after appropriate hardware has been purchased.  The interactive lectures permit real time interchange between faculty and students.  Faculty from each institution speak with authority about seed technology issues in their own countries permitting a greater global understanding of constraints and advantages to successful seed production.

By combining faculty from five participating institutions, the Consortium for International Seed Technology Training provides in-depth, comprehensive seed workshops.  This has been an ongoing activity in China, Brazil and Chile and workshops are currently planned in Chile and Vietnam.  These workshops bring CISTT faculty on-site for direct interaction with students, faculty and the local seed industry.  One goal of CISTT is to establish additional CISTT “nodes” of cooperating academic institutions/organizations that would utilize CISTT educational materials to become a regional center of seed technology expertise for that location.  Such workshops permit the essential networking of faculty and institutions to determine the level of expertise required to become a CISTT node.
